Manchester City and Benfica have a gentleman’s agreement for the purchase of goalkeeper Ederson Moraes. The Brazilian goalkeeper looks set to become City’s new number one after Claudio Bravo’s move to Manchester has failed disastrously.
Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira have a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ with Manchester City over the transfer according to Portuguese newspaper Record. For the entire season, City have been linked with a move for the shot-stopper who recently made his 50th appearance for the Portuguese champions.
Ederson, 23, has a €50million release clause in his contract. However, Rio Ave do hold more than 50% of his rights ultimately providing the Champions League outfit with a fee of less than €25million.
Due to the small ownership percentage Benfica hold, City are unlikely to be able to negotiate a price much lower than his release clause – which would mean he would become the world’s most expensive transfer. Following the failure of Claudio Bravo, City cannot afford to make another mistake in between the sticks.
