Manchester City are reportedly set to sign AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy after weeks of speculation regarding his future.
Le10Sport report that talks have “advanced strongly” in the past few days and it could be approaching the final stages very soon.
The French international’s rumoured transfer seemed to have died down in the past few days with the focus more on Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand. However, a deal is still on the cards.
A fee of €45million is being discussed, equating to £39.6million which in the current market, is a steal for a player of this potential.
An investment into a position City have lacked quality in for years is desperately required, as the likes of Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy shouldn’t be a left-back pairing to compete with Europe’s elite, hence the latter’s departure.
At only 22-years-old, Mendy can form a partnership with Leroy Sane down the left flank to instil fear in any defence for years to come. His attacking ability is something a forward would be proud of, as displayed against England in the recent friendly.
City have a tendency to either have an overly attacking or overly defensive left-back, whereas Mendy combines the two being a specialist at dispossessing his opponent.
A deal is approaching, hopefully, sooner rather than later as Mendy is a sought after player who could be playing in the sky blue of Manchester City next season.
