Manchester City’s under 18 striker Lorenzo Gonzalez, has spoken to Inside Manchester City once again. (The first you can find here).
We caught up with Lorenzo earlier this week to assess his progress, his idols, his national team and off the pitch interests.
It was a pleasure having spoken to him, you can find his Twitter page @Lorenzo9lg and get more of an insight to the players progress at City.
Thanks for talking to us Lorenzo. Firstly, you joined us from Servette FC in the summer, how would you judge your playing time in Switzerland?
My pleasure, my time playing in Switzerland was a nice time, I have a lot of beautiful memories. When I was four I started to play football and I joined Servette. I had very good season there! I play as well for the Swiss national team under 15 until now.
On the pitch, you play as a striker, which striker in the current game do you idolise and look up to?
My idols are Kun Aguero, Tevez and Luis Suarez, I love the way they play because they are small strikers like me and very quick, powerful etc… They are really an example for me about how they play. After, my idol is as well Cristiano Ronaldo because he is an example for all the young footballers, he is the most hardworking footballer and I love his mentality!
You may be surprised how many City fans are aware of your progress, how would you describe your playing style to fans that don’t know you yet?
My biggest strength is pace, I am very fast and very powerful , I score a lot of goals but I am not the typical number nine, I like to play, to touch the ball and to run in behind. I always try to do the best for my team and I am a winner, I never give up and work very hard. But of course I still need to improve everything.
When playing for your current national team Switzerland, is the style of play similar or different to how you play here at City?
The style of play of Switzerland is very different to Man City, at Man City we probably have the best players in Europe and generally we always dominate possession, but with Switzerland it is different, we have good players but of course are not the same level as City so sometimes we need to play a bit longer than I’m used to playing at City.
City Under 18 goalkeeper Aro Muric is also at the club and like yourself is from Switzerland, has his presence helped you on and off the pitch?
Yes of course when I came here Aro helped me a lot, he is a very good guy, he is a good friend and an incredible goalkeeper. I am also Spanish so it helped me a lot that I can speak Spanish with all of the Spanish speakers in the team.
In your last interview with Inside MCFC, you declared you want to play for the Spanish national team over the Swiss, what made you want to do so?
I prefer not to speak about the theme of the national team.
On your twitter there is a photo you going to train with the first-team, what is that experience like going to train with world class players like there are here at City?
Twitter: Good training with the first team today! @ManCity https://t.co/g9mCyVsIzd (@Lorenzo9Lg)
It was a dream come true, since very little I have worked really hard and it’s only the beginning, but it was incredible to train with players that have won everything in their careers, with players I look at everyday on TV, it was something I will never forget. Of course it was incredible that I could train with Pep Guardiola one of the best coaches in the history of football.
When training with the first-team, have you spoken with the boss and if so what did he say to you?
When I arrived Pep came to me and said hello but the training was already started so after that he kept going giving instructions.
Since we last spoke to you over five months ago, how would you assess your progress so far in England?
I have done a lot of progress in all the aspects, I work everyday to improve as much as I can and I am really enjoying every single moment at Man City.
Finally, off the pitch, what are your interest that you enjoy in your downtime?
In my free time I like to stay relaxed, be with my family, play PlayStation and listen to music, I like to do all these things and of course watch football haha.
