Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that defender John Stones and striker Sergio Aguero are in contention to play at Anfield this Saturday.
Stones was substituted during City’s 3-0 victory away to Hull City on Monday evening after picking up a knock to his knee. The defender has struggled for form in recent weeks and has not regularly featured for the Citizens since mid-November.
More significantly for City, striker Sergio Aguero returns to action for City following a four-match suspension following his red card during the defeat to Chelsea four weeks ago.
During his pre-match press conference, Guardiola confirmed the duo would return to action for the clash with their North-west rivals, “John is much, much better. Vincent [Kompany] and Leroy [Sane] I think will not be available to play.
“Aguero is ready – he came back good from Argentina. Finally, he came back after four games ban, and we are happy he is back.”
Sané looks set to miss yet another game after picking up a knock, while Vincent Kompany remains sidelined due to the injury sustained during the defeat of Crystal Palace in November.
