The name Schmeichel certainly has a goalkeeping legacy in the game, continued by Kasper it could have kept to the trend of being a number one at City, however it wasn’t meant to be.
With Kasper it is a different story, joining City as a teenager in 2002, the keeper moved his way up the ranks and loan spells at Darlington, Bury and Falkirk all preceded his return to City.
He began the 2007/08 season under Sven-Goran Eriksson as number one but with the emergence of Joe Hart and arrival of Shay Given, Kasper soon fell down the pecking order and left for Notts County in 2009.
Since that move, he has swiftly glided his way up the football league, now at Leicester City accompanied by a Premier League winners medal he has undoubtedly lived up to his name.
With City’s current woes in between the sticks, Schmeichel would surely stake a claim for a place with competent goalkeeping and calmness on the ball being fantastic attributes he possesses which City can’t seem to find a combination of; it’s seemingly one or the other.
