Manchester City are leading the chase for Barnsley right-back James Bree. The 19-year-old defender is wanted by Pep Guardiola’s side as the Spaniard prepares City for a final charge on the Premier League title.
John Cross at the Daily Mirror, City are leading a host of clubs currently in contention for Bree’s signature, and the Blues are poised to make a £4million bid for the Championship player.
Bree is capable of playing in a midfield role as well as full-back if required, and similarities are already present with City’s John Stones previously playing for Barnsley before his £3million move to Everton in January 2013.
Youngster Bree made his debut in May 2014 and had made rapid progress ever since with Premier League scouts watching him week in and week out.
If City are to sign the defender, they must fend off competition from Tottenham, Manchester United, Southampton and Aston Villa. In fact, Villa boss Steve Bruce is preparing a bid for the youngster who is so highly regarded.
