Manchester City had a frustrating day at the office against a well-organised Feyenoord side with a late Raheem Sterling winner the only goal separating the teams.
City dominated the game on the whole with 70% possession and 777 passes compared to Feyenoord’s 192.
Ederson made a good save early on to deny Feyenoord from scoring, rushing out to the opposing forward and pushing the ball over the net.
Yaya Toure took a free kick which made its way over the wall, yet just wide of the goal. A signature goal had it of found the net.
Sergio Aguero has a great opportunity in the 73rd minute as he chested the ball down but unfortunately drove the ball wide of the net, which should have opened the scoring.
Phil Foden replaced Toure for his competitive debut as fans cheered, a big moment for the youngster and the fans.
A beautiful passing movement saw Sterling play a one-two with Ilkay Gundogan who slotted a delightful ball through the Feyenoord defence which the Englishman latched onto to give City the Lead.
Brahim Diaz replaced Sterling in the 91st minute, with that being the youngsters first appearance of the season.
Now, here are the player ratings.
He wasn’t worked too hard by the Feyenoord attack. Made some good saves, had a pulse-raising moment for fans when he miss-controlled the ball and made a questionable tackle.
Used his pace well down the wing and kept a tidy job at the back. Simple task, but a clean one.
He did his job well enough and managed to avoid making an ill-judged tackle. A moment where he got too ahead of himself in play occurred but overall a job well done.
Was decent in defence and seemed to be more accomplished compared to his time under Pellegrini, yet got booked for a dangerous tackle giving away a free kick.
Strong enough of a performance from a player who’s been getting less game time. Had a go at goal occasionally and generally kept his opposition quiet.
Toure made some decent tackles and an excellent attempt on goal from a free kick. However, he was slow with and without the ball all too often. Too old to keep up it seems.
Did well well-retaining possession, pulling off some good passes as well as assisting the goal. Not too shabby in defence either.
De Bruyne 7.5
De Bruyne both created and defended in the process stringing together some very nice passes and creating some great opportunities, a little rash in the challenge leading to his booking.
Smooth on the ball, bringing in some silky dribbling and troubling Feyenoord with his pace. Not the mention scoring our only and winning goal.
Bernardo Silva: 6.5
Not surprising in the game, scuffing a clear-cut opportunity with a weak shot. However, he had some good moments and made some excellent passes once moved more centrally.
Not his best performance. But far from his worst, he had some kind shots on target with one great opportunity. Aguero also chipped in with some nice passes from further down the pitch.
Gabriel Jesus 6.5
Jesus had some good moments and subtle movement. Didn’t do a great deal today but was still good overall
Some smooth passes and good dribbling from the 17-year-old on his senior debut. Bright future for him and in time will be a fantastic player. More time on the pitch needed.
Only came on the pitch for 3 minutes, not enough time to make an impact.
