Sunderland are expecting Manchester City to make a move for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the summer. A source told ESPN that the Premier League survival kings are expecting to receive a bid from Pep Guardiola’s side for the future England international.
At the moment, City face an uphill battle as they must attempt to resolve the goalkeeping issue that divides the squad – and supporters alike. Following the failings of summer signing Claudio Bravo, many predict Guardiola to use the summer market to overcome the short-term solution found with Willy Caballero.
Pickford has been scouted by many of European football’s best clubs and seemingly fits the profile wanted by Guardiola. The 23-year-old remains the only shining light in a Sunderland season that is deemed one of the worst in recent memory.
Other notable links to goalkeepers include Benfica’s Ederson, Real Sociedad Geronimo Rulli, and Sporting Lisbon’s Rui Patricio but Pickford’s homegrown status may be the deciding factor on who City decide to pursue.
