In recent seasons, Manchester City versus Leicester has gone from a relegation scrap to a title contending match. The duo have battled throughout relegation to the third tier of English football to return to the summit of the Premier League – with both winning the title.
This weekend, the two clubs are set to battle it out for three points. However, unlike last season, City are hoping to capture a third Premier League crown in six seasons while Leicester have returned to their historical routes of fighting for survival in the Premier League.
If Leicester were relegated this season, the club would emulate the success of Manchester City to be relegated as English football’s champions. No other side has achieved such a feat since Wilf Wild’s City dropped down a division during the 1937/1938 season.
That remains unlikely to occur, but Leicester will be hungry to overcome Pep Guardiola’s City this weekend. Like Leicester, City are hurting following their embarrassing home defeat to Chelsea and want to end their embarrassment with a comprehensive victory over the champions.
For City to achieve success, the team must ensure they win these battles against the Foxes.
