Much was made of Ederson Moraes recent world-record move from Benfica to Manchester City, but the Brazilian is quickly settling into life under Pep Guardiola.

His debut against Manchester United almost two weeks ago saw criticism fall at the feet of the Brazilian after a mistake leading to United’s first goal in their 2-0 victory. But now, two games since his calamity error against City’s bitter rivals, Ederson produced a top-class performance against Premier League competitors Tottenham to enhance his reputation among City supporters.

Ederson was identified as the long-term replacement to Joe Hart following his exceptional performances for Portuguese outfit Benfica over the past two seasons. Hart’s departure left a gaping hole in much need of filling by Guardiola. However, the arrival of Claudio Bravo last summer further widened the gap instead of decreasing it, like expected.

Everyone is well aware of what is demanded by Pep Guardiola when his goalkeeper lines out for his City side, and Ederson displayed the slightly overused description, ‘perfect Pep performance’ during the 3-0 victory over Tottenham.

City’s domination all over the pitch was evident, but on numerous occasions, the play was dictated by Ederson’s antics – including a jaw dropping goal kick that almost led to a City goal.
