Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce is set to make a shock move to sign England’s number one goalkeeper Joe Hart the Daily Star believe.

The former England manager has been less than impressed with Wayne Hennessey this season. With Julian Speroni out of contract in June and Steve Mandanda linked with a return to his native France, a quality goalkeeper is required.

Hart, who played the full 90 minutes in Allardyce’s only game in charge of England, has spent the season on loan at Italian side Torino after Pep Guardiola replaced him with Chile captain Claudio Bravo.

Torino has already revealed that they would be unable to sign Hart permanently and with the keeper “preferring a more long-term move over another loan deal”, Crystal Palace will be confident of persuading him to move to Selhurst Park.

With City linked with a number of goalkeepers already this summer including AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Benfica’s Ederson Moraes, a return to the Etihad Stadium is highly unlikely.

Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool are also said to be interested, but City would rather strike a deal with Palace instead of a direct top-four rival.

Hart, who has four Premier League Golden Glove awards to his name, (the joint-highest along with Petr Cech) wants to play in the Premier League again next season but is also open to joining a team from overseas if no preferable offers arise.
