Manchester City must overcome the impossible tonight by beating Liverpool comprehensively to overturn their 3-0 defeat in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg.
City suffered a humiliating defeat last Wednesday leaving them with a mountain to climb should they have any chance of progressing to the semi-finals. Pep Guardiola’s side must score at least four goals to advance and could need a fifth if Liverpool score at the Etihad Stadium.
The Blues are coming off the back of their most difficult week this season with a defeat to Liverpool occurring before City’s derby defeat to Manchester United. More worryingly for City, the team has leaked six goals in two games – which is something Guardiola should undoubtedly consider for tonight’s clash.
Liverpool rested five players on Saturday ahead of their visit to City tonight with Mo Salah (injured), Jordan Henderson (suspended), and Emre Can (injured) expected to miss the game.
Indeed, this is the likely team Guardiola will select tonight.
