Lionel Messi has backed Sergio Aguero and claimed there could be no doubting his world-class ability despite a recent slump in form for the Argentine. Both players will be on opposite side’s this Tuesday as City and Barcelona look set to duel once again at the Etihad Stadium.
In the previous fixture a fortnight ago, Aguero was controversially named on the bench at the Nou Camp – a game City lost 4-0. Messi believes Aguero and his current team-mate, Luis Suarez, are two of the best in the game currently up-front.
Kun is a very straightforward and easy-going person, a great lad and, as a striker, one of the best. As is Luis [Suarez],” Messi told The Sun.
“They are different but, if you want to look at it like that, either of them can decide a game. They are both very decisive.”
Messi was commenting on Barcelona’s modern style and believes it’s currently not too dissimilar to that of Guardiola’s, who departed the club in 2012.
“In reality, the system of Barcelona is something that everyone knows,” said Messi.
“I can say we are one of the few clubs that have it, but each boss has different things and applies them as he sees fit.
“We have not noticed massive changes but, yes, some – in that with Luis maybe now we are a bit more aggressive when we attack at speed, while with Pep we used counter-attacks less.”
Tuesday’s game will be an entertaining clash with City coming into the match on the back of 0-4 victory away at West Brom in the Premier League. The games at the Etihad have usually been a tight contest, and Tuesday’s game is expected to be no different.
