The idea of making any signing’s in the January transfer window was quashed by Manchester City last month. However, reports now suggest the Blues are set to dip their toes into the January transfer market following the injury to Ilkay Gundogan.

The German midfielder has been ruled out for the entirety of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. And just when City’s lack of options couldn’t become much worse, Fernandinho has been ruled out for four games after picking up a third red card in six games during City’s defeat of Burnley.

Both the Daily Mail and Goal are reporting City are ready to step up their pursuit of a midfielder with Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi earmarked as the ideal replacement for the duo.

City are believed to be fond of securing a short-term option in midfield and not ruled out the possibility of signing someone on a loan deal to fill the void left by the formidable duo.

Pep Guardiola’s side could also be interested in signing a full-back this January if the price is right for one of their targets. It looks more and more likely that City will, in fact, do some business in the winter transfer window.
