Manchester City sent scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins this week but could be challenged by Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Bayern Munich for his signature.
Portuguese publication A Bola reported City’s officials were amongst the crowd to watch the winger, who picked up another Man of the Match award, during their game vs. FC Porto.
City’s officials were impressed with the Portuguese international’s performance, and a move was labeled ‘likely’ according to the report. Martins is expected to join City player, Bernardo Silva, at the World Cup as part of Portugal’s national team in June.
The 22-year-old was coveted by City last summer before they opted to pursue a move for forward Alexis Sanchez instead of the Lisbon forward.
Eight goals and seven assists for Jorge Jesus’ side in the Portuguese league has the majority of Europe’s elite watching his potential. Should he excel in Russia, could we see the talented winger at the Etihad Stadium next season?
