Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has requested contract talks with the club’s hierarchy to prolong his career at the Etihad Stadium.
The German international is keen to extend his stay in England by agreeing an improved contract with the Premier League champions. The Sun report Gundogan is enjoying life under Pep Guardiola and hopes the club’s feeling is mutual.
The 27-year-old has become an important cog for City’s system with his versatility and dynamism crucial for Guardiola’s rotation of his squad. Gundogan is keen for City’s chiefs to offer him an increase on his current salary to ensure his long-term future is at City.
Gundogan joined City in 2016 for £21million from Borussia Dortmund and despite suffering a long-term knee injury last season, he is still highly regarded by Guardiola’s coaching staff and City’s hierarchy.
Six goals and three assists, despite playing a bit-part role for the majority of the season, is an impressive statistic for the midfielder.
