Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to ensure midfielder Thiago Alcantara is one of three recruits the club sign this summer.
City are preparing a £50million raid on Guardiola’s former club, Bayern Munich, for Spanish midfielder Thiago with the City boss keen on a reunion this summer.
Guardiola has insisted the Blues focus on signing quality as he wants three players to complete his squad and fend off a possible challenge from Manchester United, report the Mail on Sunday.
Thiago has played under Guardiola at Barcelona before switching Spain for Germany along with his former manager in 2013.
On Friday, Guardiola confirmed that star midfielder David Silva would see him game time next season decreased as age is starting to catch up on the 32-year-old. Thiago would be the ideal replacement for Silva in midfield with their playing styles somewhat similar.
Bayern Munich will be reluctant to sell their midfielder and could entice the player to reject City’s advances, so any move is likely to prove difficult.
City are also monitoring Wilfried Zaha’s progress at Crystal Palace as Guardiola eyes a move for a wide-forward.
